Windows 8 Is Coming...
Microsoft plans to release its next desktop operating system, Windows 8, later this year. Microsoft has been on a roll with major product releases every 3 years for flagship products (Windows Desktop and Server, Office Suite, and Exchange). While we don't recommend updating to the latest Windows release as soon as it available (remember Vista?), we do recommend keeping within the Microsoft recommended product Lifecycle. Generally, that means keeping no more than one version behind the current release. If you still have computers running Windows XP, let us help you plan to replace those computers before year end.
While it may seem like an just another unwanted upgrade by Microsoft, there are real advantages to replacing aging XP computers with Windows 7 computers. Windows XP has not been available on a new PC since October of 2010, so most PCs running Windows XP are starting to show their age. Windows XP has been around since 2001, which means the bad guys have had 10 plus years to find security holes. While Microsoft has done its best to release security updates, Windows XP computers are at a significantly higher risk to be infected with viruses and malware than Windows 7 computers. Security is not the only advantage to Windows 7. It is also able to more efficiently utilize resources and therefore provide better performance. Simply put, replacing a Windows XP computer with a Windows 7 computer will make your environment more secure and will increase worker productivity.
